Extra-Curricular Activities
- One Seward High student played in the All-Star Marching Band.
- 12 students and 2 teachers came from Germany to stay with the GAPP(German American Partnership Program) students from Seward.
- The Seward High FFA chapter was one of 383 chapters selected as two-star winners in the National FFA Chapter Award Program. The chapter was also selected for a three-star rating.
- A Seward High senior was selected third runner-up at the district American Legion speech contest.
- The Seward High one act play received first runner-up at the Central Conference and District competition.
- Three Seward High students were recognized as outstanding actors during the one act district competition.
- Three Seward High sophomores were selected to represent Seward at the GFWC/NFWC Pilgrimage at the state capitol.
- The Seward High chapters of FFA, FCCLA, FBLA, Key Club and VICA sponsored their fourth annual blood drive.
- Three Seward High students received all state honors in choir and band.
- Twelve 7th and 8th graders sang for an internationally recognized choral director.
- The Seward Elementary and Middle School hosted a program for the Veteran's.
- Seward High performed three one-act plays/musicals: "Shut and Bar the Door", "Competition Piece" and "This is a Test."
- Seward Elementary selected 12 third and fourth graders to make up the Character Council. They will help make some of the decisions affecting the Elementary students.
- The Seward High collected food and donated 925 pounds to Blue Valley and 25 sacks were given to FoodNet.
- Seward County sheriff's office presented a program on self defense to Seward High's FCCLA.
- Seward Elementary school's character council collected 830 pounds of food and donated it to the Blue Valley Community Action food pantry.
- Fourteen Seward High FBLA members attended Economics Day at UNL.
- One Seward High student placed first in the Humorous Prose Literature Event at Central Conference Speech Contest. Two students placed first in the Duet Acting event and one student finished second in Informative. Every Seward High entry won a superior rating and the team placed fifth.
- One Seward Middle student won the short story entry in the GFWC writing competition and will be submitted to the state writing competition.
- Seven Seward High students poetry and short stories were winning entries in the GFWC writing competition and will be submitted to the state writing competition.
- The Seward High FBLA collected coats for the Blue Valley Crisis Center.
- 3rd and 4th graders at Seward Elementary made valentine's and distributed them to the rest homes and assisted living.
- Two Seward Elementary students placed first and second in the Seward County spelling contest.
- A Seward Middle School student placed second in the Seward County spelling contest.
- The Seward High Academic Decathlon team competed at the regional competition and brought home three 1st place, four 2nd place and four 3rd place.
- A Seward High senior placed 3rd overall at the State Speech Competition in the Humorous Prose division. He was also the District Champion.
- Two Seward High seniors qualified for State Speech in Duet Acting.
- A Seward High senior won the Optimist Essay contest and her essay will be entered into the District Competition.
- The Seward High Swing Choir won three first place finishes and a gold trophy during competitions this year.
- Four Seward High FFA members received reserve champion at Districts in the junior livestock selection team and will compete at the state competition.
- The Seward High color guard competed in the championship competition and won.
- Three Seward High band members were selected by tape audition to perform in the Central Conference Honor Band.
- A Seward High Senior received the first annual "Tanderup" Award presented by Rotary.
- The Seward Elementary students raised $548.00 in the Change for Chimes fundraiser.
- The Seward Middle School students raised $1200.00 for the Change for Chimes fundraiser.
- The Seward High FBLA chapter won the Sweepstakes Award for there many projects.
- The Seward High FFA chapter was given a community service gold award based on community services, they received a $2500.00 grant for the greenhouse, they were named one of the top chapters in the state at the sate convention and 12 members received the state FFA degree which is the highest degree a member can earn.
- The Seward High Skills USA sent 25 students to the state conference. At the competition they received 23 medals and 10 national qualifiers.
- The Seward High Key Club held its annual Multicultural fair.
- The Seward High Key Club hosted the senior citizen prom.
- Six members of the Seward High FFA chapter attended the Washington Leadership Conference.
- Members of FCCLA went to the Elementary and ate lunch with their 1st grade lunch buddies.
- Seward High's FCCLA received the GOLD chapter award at the State Leadership Conference based on chapter activities throughout the year.
- 25 members of FCCLA participated at District STAR, 11 members qualified for the State event were they received gold and silver medals.
- The Seward High Key Club started a program called Reading Classics, where they read to elementary students.
- The Seward High student council planned and put on Homecoming.
- Two Seward High School Spanish 1 students received Superior ratings for their work in the Spanish Poster Competition at the UNL Language Fair.
- Several Seward High School Spanish IV students participated in the UNL Spanish Placement Exam and successfully tested out of multiple courses/levels of Spanish instruction at the UNL Language Fair.
- 10 FFA
members received the State FFA degree, which is the highest degree
that
a member can earn on the state level. - 1 FFA member received the American FFA degree, which is the highest degree that a member can earn on the national level.
- 1 FFA member was the district FFA extemporaneous speaking champion and earned a silver medal at the state competition.
- The National Honor Society awards 200 scholarships each year to graduating seniors from across the nation. Kyle Broderick, a 2005 SHS graduate, was chosen from among more than 5,600 applicants to receive a $1000 scholarship. Students are selected for the scholarships based on demonstrated outstanding scholarship, service, leadership, and character, plus are required to write an essay in response to a selected question.
- One teacher from the middle school was named the 2004 Music Alum of the Year from Nebraska Wesleyan University.
- Two seventh grade girls were chosen to sing, from taped auditions, in the Heartland Honor Choir at UNO in January.
- The 8th Grade Concert choir went to the East Butler Music Contest on April 2 with 42 entries. They received 27 superior ratings and 15 excellent ratings. The 8th Grade Concert Choir received a superior rating.
- Fourteen middle school vocal students were chosen to participate in Singing Youth of Nebraska in February.
- Three middle school students were chosen to sing in the Meridian Honor Choir in April.
- The 8th Grade Concert Choir was chosen to sing at the World Day of Prayer Luncheon in May.
Athletics
- The Seward High boys Cross Country team won districts.
- The Seward High girls Cross Country team won districts.
- The Seward High softball team was district champions and advanced to the state competition.
- The Seward High boys Cross Country team won the Central Conference championship.
- The Seward High girls Cross Country team received the runner-up trophy at the Central Conference competition.
- The Seward High softball team won the Central Conference championship.
- Three Seward High softball members were all-conference first team, two members were named to the second team, and two earned honorable mention. One softball member was selected for first team all-state and two members earned honorable mention.
- Three players of the Seward High football team were named to the all-district first team and 7 were selected for honorable mention.
- The Seward High Cross Country team received runner-up at the state competition.
- Two Seward High wrestlers were conference champions, one member of the team placed second and one finished third.
- The boys soccer team received runner-up at Central Conference.
- Four members of the girls' basketball team received all-conference honors.
- Three members of the boys' basketball team received all-conference honors, one of the boys was selected to play in the SECC all-star game.
- The Seward High track team sent 16 athletes in 17 events to the State Meet.
- One girl on the Seward High track team brought home a medal from the state track meet.
- The Seward High golf team placed 4th in districts and sent one team member to the state competition. He placed 9th at the state tournament.
- At the district wrestling competition one member of the team brought home the championship, one earned second place and one third place. All three members will advance to the state competition.
- The Seward High softball team finished the season with it's best record ever of 21 -- 4 and finished the season ranked 7th and 8th.
- The Seward High volleyball team had 3 all conference players, one academic all state player, and one all state player.
- The Seward High cheerleaders went to many summer camps to learn new routines.
