In The "Sportlight"

Mrs. Dana Schaefer, High School Assistant Principal and Activities Director coordinates the scheduling and supervision of all athletic completitions.

A few 2004-2005 Sports Highlights

December 12, 2005

Boys Golf  (Coach Jim Placke)
        A member of the boys golf team made all-conference, medaled at districts and placed
        9th at the state tournament.

Boys Basketball  (Coach Jim Placke)

  • A boys basketball player was selected first team all-conference, honorable mention all-state and was selected to play in the SECC all-star game.
  • Two players made academic all-state and honorable mention all-conference.


Volleyball  (Coach Tom Pallas)

  • The 2004-2005 volleyball program included 30 players in grades 9-12.
  • The varsity season consisted of 24 matches with a record of 8-16.
  • The junior varsity team played 15 matches with a record of 5-9.
  • The freshmen team played 12 matches with a record of 7-5.
  • The varsity team consisted of 12 letter winners. 
  • There were three all conference players, one academic all state player, and one all state player.


Girls Golf (Coach Tom Widler)
        In 2004-2005 there were six girls who participated in girls golf.
        (we had no team or individual awards)

Girls basketball  (Coach Tom Tvrdy)

  •  The Seward Lady Jays completed a very successful basketball season in 2004- 2005.  The team finished with a record of 13-9 and a final ranking  of #8 in the Lincoln Journal Star.  The girls captured third place in the Central Conference Tournament and were also Runner-up in the B-4 District tournament. 
  •  Kerry Butzke was named first team Class B all-state in the Lincoln Journal Star and Channels 10/11  Coaches all-state team.  She was also named second team Class B all-state in the Omaha World Herald and was first team all-conference.
  •  Alyssa Mueller was named second team all conference.  Taylor Felix and Heather  Post were named honorable mention all-conference.
  •  Making the Lincoln Journal Academic All-State team were Jess Topil, Terrin Wurdeman and Taylor Felix.

Boys Soccer  (Coach Jamie Opfer)

  • The Seward boys soccer team had it's second best record ever going 6-8, with two wins over ranked teams.
  • All-State, All Conference  Bryan Schranz
  •  2nd team all conference   Tony Love
  •  Honorable Mention         Thomas Butzke

2004-2005 Seward Wrestling
    There were 18 athletes that participated in wrestling during the 2004-2005
    season.  Districts were held in Beatrice, Seward had a district champion, a
    district runner-up, and a third place.  These three district placers qualified for the
    state tournament held in Lincoln the end of February.   Three athletes achieved
    academic all state.

8th grade football for 2004-2005  (Coach Mike Reese)
     There were 36 boys out for football last year. Fundamentals were stressed. Our record
     was 0-4 in A games and 2-2 in B games.

7th grade boys basketball    (Coach Mike Reese)
     There were 25 boys out for basketball last year. Fundamentals were stressed.
     Our record was 7-1 in A games, 6-0 in B games, and 3-0 in C games.
