Seward Alternative Education Center
Six years ago the Seward Alternative Education Center (SAEC) was developed to help selected students succeed in their goal of completing a high school education. The dedicated staff of SAEC has an encompassing goal of helping each individual student achieve success in self-respect, responsibility, and attaining those skills necessary to be a productive, contributing member of a global society.
Approximately 30 students have attended the program during the 2005-2006 school year and an additional 20 students have been provided material which allows them to pursue credit toward graduation. Of those 30 students, six have graduated, one returned to the high school and met graduation requirements, seven have returned to the high school, 3 have transferred to another school district to complete their education, three have withdrawn, one middle school student was served during the course of the year, and nine are continuing their education.
The continuing students are using the A+ Learning System (a computerized system) and the Portable Assisted Study Sequence to complete classes toward graduation credit. The School District of Seward is looking forward to serving additional students at SAEC in the coming year.
