Student Accomplishments

- A student from Seward High was selected first runner-up in the District American Legion Speech Contest on the Constitution in November.
- In English 11, students were given the opportunity to compete in the Bess Streeter Aldrich Foundation short story contest. The first place award was given to a student from Seward High School. The prize was $50.00, and having the winning story published in a collection printed by the Bess Streeter Aldrich Foundation.
- Fifteen students selected from the sophomore and junior classes were inducted into the Seward Chapter of the National Honor Society.
- Twelve students from Seward High participated in the Concordia Plum Creek Literacy Festival Writing Workshop in September.
- There were 15 student participants from Seward High in the GFWC/NFWC Women's Writing Workshop held in Seward at the Civic Center in October
- Students from Seward High placed first, second and third in the Seward VFW County Voice of Democracy Contest sponsored by the Seward VFW. The first place local winner was selected runner-up at the District VFW Speech Contest.
- A Seward High ninth grade student received the second place award for poetry in the grades 7-9 section of a literature contest sponsored by the GFWC Nebraska Federation of Women's Clubs.
- A senior from Seward High won the essay contest sponsored by the Seward Optimist Club.
- Two sophomores from Seward High won the District Speech contest for the Seward Optimist club and competed in the State Contest, as the District Male Speaker and Female Speaker. The Seward male entry placed in the top three entries at the state contest.
- Seward High's one act/play production presentation "Something's Rotten in the State of Denmark" competed in the Conference Contest and District Contest and was selected District Runner-up.
- Five students were recognized as Outstanding Performers in both the District and Conference One Act/Play Production contests.
- Seward High students competed in the Shakespeare Monologue Contest at the State Fair and a Seward High Senior was awarded first runner-up.
- The Seward High School Improv Team was selected first runner-up at the State Fair Improv competition.
- The Seward High Quiz Bowl team competed at the Nebraska State Fair and qualified for the finals.
- Two Seward High Quiz Bowl teams competed in the Literature Quiz Bowl contest, held in conjunction with the Plum Creek Children's Literacy Festival. One team qualified for the finals.
- Seven students from Seward High School were honored with first place awards in the GFWC Seward Woman's Club and GFWC Seward Junior Women's Club Literature Contest in February.
- Seward High Students won first and third place in the short story high school division and first and third place in the high school poetry division of the NFWC State Literature contest. All of the winning entries were published in an anthology.
- A Seward High senior's poem was selected first in the high school education division of the Nebraska State Fair. It was a response to a Ted Kooser poem "So, this is Nebraska".
- She was also honored for the award in May at the State Capitol Rotunda.
- Three ninth grade teams from Seward High competed in the annual Lincoln Northeast Brain Brawl Quiz Bowl Contest in April. One team made the finals.
- Two SHS Quiz Bowl teams competed in the NFWC All Girl Quiz Bowl contest in October at the Seward Civic Center. The SHS A team won the third place trophy involving 24 teams.
- Two SHS Quiz Bowl teams competed in the ESU #6 annual high school quiz bowl competition and won first place over 27 other teams. The A team qualified for the State ESU Quiz Bowl contest and won two games and lost two games.
- Seward High competed in the Nebraska Academic Decathlon in January with eleven students testing in five core areas. The students were awarded 15 individual medals and ribbons in the contest. Seward also sponsored a Quiz Bowl team in the AD contest.
- Seward High's two quiz bowl teams competed in the Norris High School invitational quiz bowl contest in January.
- The Seward High Speech team competed in the Concordia University, David City and Aurora High School speech tourney's winning various individual honors and trophies.
- Seward High's speech team competed in both the Central Conference and District Speech Contests with a full team at each event and various speakers were recognized with awards and medals.
- Members of the Seward High Speech team completed nine presentations to various community groups during and following the speech season.
- Eight students from Seward High were honored in 2005-06 as Student Youth Rotarian's of the month by the Seward Rotary Club and a student was selected as the Seward Rotary Young Rotarian of the Year for his "Service Above Self"!
- Four students at Seward High were elected to be student leaders on the Seward Fourth of July Celebration Committee.
- The seventh grade Reading Classic team won first place in the Seward County division III Reading classic competition.
- Two seventh grade students had poetry published in A Celebration of Young Poets-Midwest Spring 2006. One seventh grade student's poem was chosen as one of ten Top Poems Grades 7-8-9 in that anthology.
- One seventh grade student placed second and one seventh grade student placed fourth in the VFW Patriot's Pen Essay contest.
- Three Seward High students were invited to take the American Invitational Mathematics Exam
- One Seward High student was invited to be a member of the American Regional Mathematics League
- Seward High Math Department was the Nebraska winner of the 2006
