In the "Sportlight"

Cross-Country

The Girls Cross-Country Team Finished as Conference Runner-Ups and finished 4th at the State Meet.
The Boys Cross-Country Team Finished as Conference Runner-Ups, District Runner-Ups and Finished 10th State.
The Girls Cross-Country Team won the Aurora Invitational and the David City Aquinas Invitational and earned 4 runner-up team trophies as well.
The Boys Cross-Country Team won the Aquinas Invitational and finished runner-up in five other invitationals.
Members of the Boys and Girls Cross-Country Team had twelve new school records.
There were eleven individuals on the boys and girls cross-country team who earned Academic All-State Honors.
The Boys and Girls Cross-Country Team had a combined total of 79 individual awards this season. A member of the Girls Cross-Country team earned All-State Honors for her 10th place finish at State.
There were 3 boys and 3 girls on the cross-country team who earned All-District Honors.
There were 3 boys and 3 girls on the cross-country team who earned All-Conference Honors.
The boys and girls cross-country team had one 3 time state qualifier, three 2 time state qualifiers and eight 1st time state qualifiers.

High School Track and Field Summary

This year's edition of the Seward Track and Field team produced one Central Conference champion and four qualifiers to the state track and field meet in Omaha. Jackie Brooks took first place honors in the pole vault clearing 10' at the Central Conference championships held at the Seward high school track on May 6th.

On May 11th, Seward hosted the B-3 District championships at Concordia University. Sophomore Nick Bogenreif cleared the bar at 14'4" to place second in the pole vault. Also making it to state in the pole vault was sophomore Jackie Brooks by making 10'6" and placing second. Freshman Lisa Kozisek earned a place in state by coming in third in the 200 meter dash in a time of 27.3. Seward's final qualifier was senior Taylor Felix finishing fourth in the 3200 meter run in a time of 12:25.9.

Boys Soccer

This years Seward boys soccer team was a young team that played with a lot of heart and fight all season long. Although, the season ended without a win, the team continued to get better and better each week. Three players from this team were honored with All-Conference selections: James Dye, Honorable Mention All-Conference, Jacob Kophamer, Honorable Mention All-Conference, and Tony Love, Second team All-Conference and Academic All-State.

Baseball

The baseball team completed their first year of spring baseball in nearly sixty years. The team finished with a 2-13 record. Two athletes were selected to the academic all-state team.

Girls Golf (Coach Tom Widler)

There were four girls who participated in girls golf.(we had no team or individual awards)

Wrestling

There were 13 athletes that participated in wrestling during the 2005-2006 season. Districts were held in Falls City, Seward had a district champion, and a district runner-up. These 2 district placers qualified for the state tournament held in Omaha the end of February. The state qualifiers placed 4th and 6th and finished 24th as a team. Two athletes achieved academic all state.

Boys Basketball (Coach Placke)

The boys basketball team finished with a 13-9 record while going 8-1 in games decided in overtime of 2 or less points. Two players were named to the all-conference and honorable mention all-state teams.

Boys Golf (Coach Placke)

The boys golf team had an all-conference performance.

"Lady Jays" Basketball Report

The Seward "Lady Jays" basketball team had another very successful season finishing with a 12-8 record. Some of the accomplishments include winning the York Holiday Tournament and finishing runner-up in the district tournament. The team also was ranked throughout the season reaching as high as a #3 ranking at one time in Class B.

Softball Items

The Seward High Softball Team:
    Finished the season with its best record yet, 26-4.
    Finished 3rd at the Nebraska State High School Softball Tournament.
    Won the Central 10 Conference Tournament and was crowned Conference Champs for the     second year in a row.
    Won their District Tournament and was crowned District Champs for the second year in a row.

Three Seward High Softball players earned All-Conference Honorable Mention.
Three Seward High Softball players earned 1st Team All-Conference honors.
Three Seward High Softball players earned All-State Honorable Mention.
One Seward High Softball player was selected to the Class B All-State 2nd Team.
One Seward High Softball player was selected to the Super-State 2nd Team.
