EducationQuest pilot program targets middle school parents

EducationQuest Foundation has selected Seward Middle School as one of 14 Nebraska schools to participate in a pilot program that will measure the effectiveness of college and career planning information for middle school parents.
EducationQuest developed the pilot program as a result of recent middle school focus group sessions. The results showed that many middle school parents don't know how they'll pay for college, how to motivate their children to do better in school, or how to guide them to future career options, said EducationQuest Vice President Daphne Hall. As a result, they simply don't discuss college as an option for their children.
To address those issues, EducationQuest will provide Seward Middle School parents with three publications scheduled to arrive by mail in October, January and March. They include:
Exploring College - Helping Nebraska families plan early for college. This is available in Spanish and a copy may be obtained from your school counselor.
Exploring Careers A guide to future occupations
Exploring College Funding - Discovering ways to pay for college
Before reviewing the publications, parents will complete a pre-survey to gauge their knowledge and opinions about college and career planning. Once they have reviewed all three publications with their students, parents will complete a post-survey to determine the effectiveness of the materials. The survey results will help EducationQuest determine if they should expand the program statewide in future years.
Seward Public Schools will receive a monetary donation from EducationQuest for participating in the pilot program.
