SHS Speech Team Captures Four Trophies At Concordia Speech Meet

Members of the 2008 Seward High Speech team captured four trophies at the Concordia University Speech tournament held on Saturday, January 26, 2008 in Seward. SHS Junior, Ryan Coufal won the fourth place trophy in Extemporaneous Speaking and in Impromptu Speaking. SHS Sophomore, Sarah Garbers won the third place trophy in Entertaining Speaking and SHS Sophomore Andrew Sorsen won the fourth place trophy in Persuasive Speaking.

SHS students recieving Superior ratings included Tanner Smith-Informative, Nathan Broeker-Informative, Ryan Coufal-Extemporaneous and Impromtu, Andrew Sorsen-Persuasion, Sarag Garbers-Entertaining and Josh Luff-Impromptu Speaking.

SHS students recieving Excellant ratings included Rhiannon Root-Entertaining and Persuasive, Andrew Sorsen-Extemporaneous, Josh Luff-Extemporaneous, Josh McKey-Humorous Prose and Poetry, Evan Canning-Humorous Prose, Paul D. Myers- Imformative and Persuasive Speaking, Stephanie Rippstein-Serious Prose and Jacob Perkins-Poetry.

Their coach is SHS educator, Clark Kolterman. The team has competed in the Southeast High School speech tourney this year and will be competing in Aurora, David City, Milford, and Plattsmouth Speech tourneys yet this season. The speech team's Conference meet will be Columbus at Columbus Lakeview on Friday, February 15 and the Distict Tourney is on March 4 at East High School.
