SHS Speech Team Members Medal at Aurora Meet

Members of the Seward High 2008 Speech Team traveled to Aurora High School to compete in their annual Mid Winter Speech Tournament on Saturday, February 02, 2008 and returned with three medalists in finals and eight superior entries.
Placing first in Novice Poetry was SHS Junior Josh McKey with a superior rating. He also received a superior rating in Novice Humorous Prose Literature. Ryan Coufal, an SHS Junior, placed second and medaled in both Novice Extemporaneous Speaking and Novice Persuasive Speaking and received superior ratings in both events. Nathan Broeker, an SHS Junior, received superior ratings in Varsity Informative Public Address. Evan Canning, an SHS Junior, participated in Novice Humorous Prose Literature with an excellent rating and Eric Heinicke, also an SHS Junior, won an excellent rating in Varsity Extemporaneous Speaking.
The SHS Drama team received a superior rating with their presentation of “Wild Oats,” by James McClure in Varsity Oral Interpretation of Drama. The drama team members include SHS Freshman, Jillian Konsjord and SHS Juniors Nathan Broeker, Evan Canning, Josh McKey and Ryan Coufal.
Other speech team members were unable to participate in the speech event due to illness or activity conflicts. The team’s coach is Clark Kolterman, SHS Speech and Drama instructor.
The team will participate in speech tournaments in David City on Feb. 9, Conference at Columbus Lakeview on Feb. 15, Milford on Feb. 16, Plattsmouth on Feb. 23 and Districts at Lincoln East on March 4.
