Seward High Speech Team Captures First Place Speech Trophy at David City

The Seward High Speech Team captured ten speaker’s medals and the first place Sweepstakes JV trophy at the recent David City High School Speech Tournament held on February 9, 2008 at the Schuyler High School. The David City annual tournament was moved to Schuyler High because they also hosted the NSAA District wrestling tournament the same week-end in David City.

Seward High students receiving superior ratings included Nathan Broeker-Persuasion and OID, Rhiannon Root-Persuasion, Stephanie Rippstein-Serious Prose Literature, Josh McKey-Humorous Prose Literature, OID and Poetry, Ryan Coufal-Persuasion, Extemp and OID, Evan Canning-Humorous Prose, Jenna Hoins-Persuasion, Andrew Sorsen-Persuasion and Extemp, Sarah Garbers-Entertaining, Josh McKey-Poetry, Humorous Prose Literature and OID, Paul D. Meyers-Informative and Jillian Konsjord-OID.

Seward High students awarded excellent ratings included Rhiannon Root-Entertainment, Logan Frank-Informative, Mandi Drohman-Serious Prose Literature and Eric Heinicke-Extemp.

There were twenty three speech teams competing in the David City Speech Tournament.

Clark Kolterman, Seward High Speech and English teacher, serves as the team’s Speech Coach.

The team will compete at Columbus Lakeview in Central Conference on Friday, February 15^th and at Milford on February 16^th. The Seward team’s NSAA District Contest is March 4^th at East High School.
