Seward Middle School Principals Report

Twelve Seward Middle School 7th and 8th grade band students were selected, by taped audition, to represent SMS at the Meridian Honor Band (names are posted throughout the school). The event includes a half day clinic with a guest conductor and formal evening performance on Friday, April 4.

SMS Jazz Band was selected, by taped audition, to represent Seward Schools and perform in the State Capitol's Rotunda on Tuesday, March 4 from 12:00-12:25 PM. This celebrates Music Education Week At The Capitol. Invitations will be sent to our State Senator as well as Dr. Barnes and the Seward School Board.

As many as 15 solos, duets and the Jazz Band involving 6th-8th grade band students will compete at the Malcolm Music Contest on Thursday, March 13. SMS students will perform during the evening session.

The following students represented the middle school at the Seward County Spelling Bee on January 26: 5th grade: Zach Marker, Zoe Nash, Lindsay Tamasi, Janie McKnight, 6th grade: Keith Wolverton, Sammi Otterstein, Lauren Walz, Cailin ten Bensel, 7th grade: Devin Brandl, Matt Wunderlich, Payton Guenther, Sarah Moody, 8th grade: Alyssa Sleight, Arron Farmer, and Alex Luethke.

The Seward Invitational Boys Basketball Tournament was held on February 7. Due to the winter snowstorm, we were only able to play a one-day tournament. Beatrice, Crete and Schuyler joined Seward in this years tournament.

Students in our Toptimes have made Valentine favors for the elderly in retirement homes and Meals-on-Wheels.

Terra Nova achievement tests are scheduled to be given to students the mornings of March 10-14.

The breakfast program has been doing well serving around 40-50 students per day. Students are encouraged to start their day with a good breakfast, whether at home or at school.
