Seward Speech Team Wins Five Medals At Plattsmouth Invitational

Seward High Sophomore, Andrew Sorsen won the first place medal in Extemporaneous Speaking at the recent Plattsmouth Speech Invitational held on Saturday, February 23 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. He was also named second runner-up in the Persuasive Speaking Division. Juniors Ryan Coufal and Eric Heinicke also medaled in Extemporaneous Speaking with 5th Place medals and SHS Junior Josh McKey won the third place medal in Poetry.
Students receiving superior ratings included Sarah Garbers in Entertaining, Josh McKey in Poetry, Stephanie Rippstein in Serious Prose, Andrew Sorsen in Persuasive, Ryan Coufal in Persuasion, Eric Heinicke in Extemporaneous Speaking, Ryan Coufal in Extemporaneous Speaking, Andrew Sorsen in Extemporaneous Speaking, Nathan Broeker in Informative Speaking and the Drama Team of Nathan Broeker, Josh McKey, Evan Canning, Jillian Konsjord, and Ryan Coufal.
Students receiving Excellent ratings included Rhiannon Root in Entertaining, Theresa Honeycutt in Persuasive, Evan Canning in Humorous Prose and Paul D. Myers in Humorous Prose.
The students are coached by SHS Speech instructor, Clark Kolterman and assisted by Concordia Student Teacher, Jessica Luebbe of Fairbury, Nebraska. The team place 7th over all with 21 schools competing. The team has competed in seven tournaments this year and will finish with the NSAA B-3 District Speech Contest held on Tuesday, March 4 at East High School in Lincoln, Nebraska.
