SHS Junior Eric Heinicke Captures Extemp Championship at District Speech
Seward wins 13 medals, sends four to State Speech!

Seward High’s Speech students captured 13 medals at the recent B-3 Nebraska School Activities Association’s (NSAA) District Speech Contest on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at Lincoln East High School. The tourney determines the representatives to the State Tourney to be held in Kearney on March 18th. Eric Heinicke captured the first place medal in Extemporaneous Speaking, and Ryan Coufal received the third place medal. Both boys qualified for the state contest in Kearney. Holly Petersen and Robert Kolterman also qualified with their duet, placing third overall and will be going to the state contest in Kearney.
Other medalist included Josh McKey-5th Place Medal in Poetry, Andrew Sorsen-5th Place Medal in Persuasive, Sarah Garbers-4th Place Medal in Entertaining, Holly Petersen-6th Place Medal in Serious Prose and Nathan Broeker, Evan Canning, Jillian Konsjord, Josh McKey and Ryan Coufal-6th Place Medal in Drama Team.
Students receiving Superior ratings included Eric Heinicke-Extemp, Ryan Coufal-Extemp, Robert Kolterman-Duet, Holly Petersen-Duet, Josh McKey-Poetry, Andrew Sorsen-Persuasion, Sarah Garbers-Entertaining, Nathan Broeker-Drama Team, Evan Canning-Drama Team, Jillian Konsjord-Drama Team, Ryan Coufal-Drama Team, Stephanie Rippstein-Serious Prose, Paul D. Myers-Humorous Prose and Jenna Hoins-Persuasion.
Excellent ratings were presented to Tanner Smith-Informative, Evan Canning-Humorous Prose, Nathan Broeker-Informative, Rhiannon Root-Entertaining and Mandi Drohman-Poetry.
The team is coached by Clark Kolterman. They placed 4th overall in Districts. Norris High won the District.
