Alex Lowther Selected Seward’s Youth Rotarian of the Month

Seward High senior, Daniel Alex Lowther was selected the March Seward Rotary Club’s Youth Rotarian of the Month.  He was honored at the weekly Seward Rotary Club meeting held at the Jones National Bank and Trust Auditorium on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at noon.  Alex is the son of Troy and LeAnn Lowther of Seward.  He was introduced to the club, presented with mementos from Rotary and given a book scholarship.  He will now qualify to be a finalist for the annual Rotary Club “Service Above Self” scholarship, which will be announced at the annual SHS Honors night in May.

Alex has participated in sports at Seward High all four years.  He was the SHS football quarterback for four years and has accepted a college football scholarship at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  Alex was also a member of the varsity basketball team and played for the SHS baseball team.  An injury in his knee dictated that he not play baseball this spring and he is recovering from knee surgery.

Alex is a member of the SHS National Honor Society and participated in the competition show for District One Acts this year.  He is a member of the Seward United Methodist Church and their godparent program.

In the category of “Service Above Self,” Alex has been involved with young children in a variety of programs in the city recreation program and he was a participant in a mission work trip to assist Native Americans with his church and Mr. Bruce Dickinson.

Alex plans to major in Exercise Science and attend Augustana College in Souix Falls, South Dakota the fall.  He plans to play football for their program as a receiver.
