Seward Rotary Selects Nathan Buss Youth Rotarian of the Year!

The Seward Rotary Club has selected Nathan Buss, a Seward High Senior, as the Youth Seward Rotarian of the Year. Rotarian Clark Kolterman announced the award at the SHS annual Honors Night at the Seward High new theater on Tuesday, May 06, 2008 at 7:00 pm. Nathan will receive a book scholarship, award certificate and a $250 scholarship from the Seward Rotary Club.

The Seward Rotary Club annually honors a Seward High Senior, selected from applications for the award based on scholarship, leadership and service to others. The award is titled the “Service Above Self” award based on the national Rotary International motto “Service Above Self!” Nathan was previously selected as the December Youth Rotarian of the Month and honored at a December meeting for his service to others at the high school, the community of Seward and his church-St. John Lutheran Church. Nathan is the son of Mark and Jan Buss of Seward. Nathan plans to attend Wayne State in Computer Technology studies and was also honored by the SHS faculty with the Senior Key award-the highest honor elected at Seward High.

Other Seward Youth Rotarians of the month were also recognized and honored during the SHS Honors Night and each was presented with a Seward Rotary Club book scholarship for college. The honored seniors included Tanner Roth-August, Tanner Smith-September, Holly Petersen-October, Kayla and Allyn Williams-November, Nathan Buss-December, Anna Meyer-January, Bobby Elwell-February, Alex Lowther-March, Jared Hans-April and Nathan Klintworth-May. Rotarian Clark Kolterman served as the project chairman for 2007-2008.

The Seward Rotary also presents three community scholarships annually at the Honors Night, the T.H. Wake Rotary Memorial Scholarship (honoring the founding club president), the Seward Rotary Club Scholarship and the Frieda Dittmann Memorial Rotary Scholarship (honoring the long time Rotary Club chef).

Applications for the 2008-2009 Seward Youth Rotarian of the Month award will be available in the fall in the SHS counselor’s office lobby. An award will again be presented monthly, based on leadership, scholarship and “Service Above Self!”
