The Seward girls’ cross country team made history by winning their first class B state championship on October 23, 2009. The team was led by Kelsey Christensen, who finished in 3rd with a time of 15:14 and Hannah Tvrdy, who finished in 4th with a time of 15:15. Liz Damman and Natasha Mueller also contributed, finishing in 16th and 20th place. McKenzie Christensen rounded out the top five, finishing in 25th place. With a score of 30 points, they edged out Lincoln Pius X to bring home the championship trophy. “It was exciting to win a state championship and I am so proud of my team!” McKenzie said. “The team never gave up and really stepped up,” Coach Holliday said.
The Jays’ season was very successful,
finishing first at nearly all of their meets. The girls’ cross
country team will be graduating five seniors: Liz Damman, Natasha
Mueller, Jordan Seaman, Michelle Ness, and Katie Thrailkill.
