Déjà Vu
Seward Jays vs. Adams Central...once again
by Miranda Wisehart and Laural Wagner
November 07, 2009
This past
Friday the Jays ended their season in a 35-7 loss to the Adams
Central Patriots. The loss was partially because of all the
sickness on the team.
The Patriots opened the game with 74 yards
in 13 plays finishing with a one yard run by their quarterback and
the PAT made the score 7-0 with 5 minutes left to play in the first
quarter.
The Jays went three and out on their first
possession handing the patriots the ball at the SHS 37 after the
punt.
The Patriots again headed down the field.
They went 63 yards in 11 plays to make the score 14-0 with 11
minutes to play in the half.
The Jays managed to move the ball into the
Patriot territory but were forced to punt.
Once again the patriots scored again going
74 yards in 8 plays and got the PAT to make the score 21-0.
Another Bluejay drive was put to a halt
when a throw by Chase Koch was intercepted. However, the Patriots
didn’t score on this opportunity.
The Jays got the kick-off to start the second half. The Patriots intercepted another pass and returned it for a touchdown and widened the margin to 28-0.
The Jays
gained some serious yardage on their next drive going from their 27
to the Patriot 26 before loosing the ball to a fumble.
Adams Central took over and began another
scoring drive and scored with 11 minutes to play in the game making
the lead 35-0.
The Bluejays lived up to their “no quit”
attitude by pushing hard in the fourth quarter. They rushed for
most of the quarter. Then Chase Wurdeman finally scored making the
score 35-7. That was the final score of the game.
"The 2009 season was an outstanding
improvement from last year. We produced a playoff team and
capped the district crown. The Beatrice game was a momentum boost
early off in the season; they were #2 in the state. The
Columbus game was also another great win, beating them in double
OT. Overall a great year," said Coach Welch.
Wurdeman led the Jays with 58 yards on 24
carries. Koch completed three of eight passes with two
interceptions.
For the defense, Travis Anderson had three
solo tackles and three assists. Derek Eastman had 16 assists. Blake
Vajgrt had two solo and eight assists. Sam Brauer had two solo and
nine assists.
The Jays finished the season 6-4 with two
of their losses to Adams Central, one to Aurora, and one to
Waverly. Seward will graduate 18 seniors: Kyle Einspahr, Brandon
Bright, Blake Barry, Steve Perkins, Dusty Winchester, Jordan
Odvody, Richie Graves, Logan Franck, Chase Koch, Sam Dierberger,
Blake Vajgrt, Tyler Anderson, Derek Eastman, Thomas Bainter, Delton
Werth, Brandon Promes, Travis Anderson, and Adam Hans.
