Sorsen Places First in Persuasion at the Aurora Speech Tourney
SHS Speech Team Wins Five Medals at the 27 Team Meet, Placing Fourth Overall

The largest meet of the speech year for Seward was held at Aurora on Saturday, February 06, 2010 at the Aurora High School. There were 27 schools involved in the contest, with Seward placing 4th overall and gathering five medals in the individual competitions. SHS Senior, Andrew Sorsen won the Varsity Persuasion division and SHS Senior Stephanie Rippstein placed third in both the Varsity Persuasion and Varsity Informative Public Address competitions. Michelle Ness, also an SHS Senior placed third in the Varsity Entertaining division and SHS Freshman, Zach Bruick placed third in the Novice division in Extemporaneous Public Speaking. Aurora won the contest, followed by Fillmore Central and Columbus Lakeview High Schools. The medalists all won with Superior ratings and competed in two rounds plus a finals round.

The team is coached by Clark Kolterman, SHS Speech and Drama teacher. Seward will travel to David City’s speech tourney on Feb. 13th, Milford’s Speech tourney on Feb. 20th, the Central Conference Speech tourney at York High on Monday, Feb. 22 and the NSAA District Speech Tourney at Schuyler High on Saturday, Feb. 27th. At Districts, the winners will travel to the State Speech Competition in Kearney on Thursday, March 18th, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
