AMIGOS GETS A FACELIFT
Seward's Mexican restaurant adds breakfast, and gets a new look

After a Friday night football game, where do the high school students go? To any Seward High student, the answer is obvious, Amigos! Just recently, Amigos got a new renovation, an obvious upgrade to the long time popular restaurant. Also, the restaurant added Kopeli coffee, donuts, and breakfast food to its menu.
“A popular choice is the biscuits and gravy,” says Cassandra Pallas, an Amigos employee.
But how does the breakfast food compare to that of a larger franchise, such as McDonalds or Burger King?
“The breakfast food has a twist of flavor, so it’s very different from McDonalds,” says Laural Wagner, a frequent to Amigos.
But does that mean its better? Personally, I believe I would rather spend my morning meal at McDonalds. The only positive I get out of the breakfast, is that the distance is more compatible than driving out on Highway 15 to McDonalds.
A very good item on the breakfast menu, though, is not food, but coffee. I’ve found that the coffee is very good, and gives Amigos a coffee house feel. The mochaccino, which is an ice blended with espresso, frappe powder, and chocolate, is very tasteful. It is probably the best thing on the new coffee menu.
What about the new look? There is no doubt that the restaurant looks improved, and better put together. To me though, I believe the restaurant based the look too much on the breakfast menu. The look is purely based on “coffee,” going for the whole coffee house look. I loved the old Mexican restaurant feel, because that’s exactly what Amigos is, a Mexican restaurant.
The change to Amigos is obvious, but I believe the restaurant lost the backbone, the feel of the Mexican restaurant that it should be.
