Jays Victorious in Homecoming Battle
Seward Jays vs. Hastings Tigers

Seward’s Homecoming was this past week.
The Jays faced the Hastings Tigers. The Jays conquered the Tigers
18-10.
The Hastings Tigers were the first to score
putting up a field goal with 6:15 left in the first quarter.
Three possessions later, Chase Koch handed
off to Chase Wurdeman who ran 62 yards down the field for a Bluejay
touchdown! The PAT went wide and the Jays took the lead 6-3 with
5:32 left in the half.
No one scored for the remainder of the
half, but Logan Franck intercepted a pass for the final play of the
half.
The Jays pushed up the field and Logan
Franck took a handoff from Koch running into the endzone for a
touchdown. Seward went for the two-point conversion but failed and
Seward still had the lead at 12-3.
On the next possession, Hastings crept up
the field and on the last play of the third quarter they got a
23-yard run for a touchdown. The PAT was good which made the score
12-10.
The teams switched possessions and finally
Wurdeman made a 3-yard run for a touchdown. The PAT went wide again
making the score 18-10.
The Tigers made it to the SHS 6-yard line
but Daniel Buss intercepted a pass to end the game! The Bluejays
won 18-10.
Some highlights for the offense included
Wurdeman carrying the ball 28 times for 197 yards. Franck carried
three times for 38 yards and caught two passes for 25 yards.
For the defense, Franck had four unassisted
tackles. Delton Werth had seven solo tackles and 10 assists. Blake
Vajgrt had one solo tackle and 13 assists.
This Friday Seward will match up against
Aurora who is the defending Class B State Champion. It should be a
great game! The kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday, September
25th.
