Seward met their first ranked Class B team on Tuesday. “After districts last year, we had some unfinished business,” commented Senior Kelsey Weatherholt. She is referring to the loss Seward had against Aurora in the district finals of last year after beating Aurora twice during the regular season. “Coming into the match, people either expected a lot of us, or didn’t expect anything at all out of us,” said Coach Pallas. “We had to deal with both of those assumptions of our team, and prove that we deserve our spot in the rankings.”
When No.4 Aurora traveled to Seward to take on the No.3 Jays, a close game was to be expected. Seward came out ahead after four games, winning 25-23, 25-27, 25-20, and 25-15. Zoie Smetter led the team in kills with eight, followed by Laural Wagner with six. While the outside led the offense, the middles carried the defense at the net. The Jays served great against the Huskies, committing just one error per game. Grace Smetter end the game with two aces, followed by Miranda Wisehart, Kelsey Weatherholt, and Zoie Smetter who each had one.
