Amber Topil Selected March Youth Rotarian of the Month

SHS Senior, Amber Topil has been selected the March Youth Rotarian of the Month.  She is the daughter of Terry Topil and Kay and Tim Hansen.  Amber was honored at the March 3, 2010 weekly Rotary Club luncheon meeting at the Jones National Bank and Trust Auditorium.  Amber was introduced and presented with mementos from the club, presented with a Rotary Club book scholarship and is a finalist for the Seward Rotary Club “Service Above Self” Youth Scholarship.  She was presented her awards by the Seward Rotary Club Past President Kevin Zadina and introduced by Rotarian Clark Kolterman.

 

Amber is involved with SHS Volleyball, Soccer, Softball-serving as the captain, Dance Team-serving as the co-captain, Colorguard / Winterguard, Quiz Bowl, FFA and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  She has been recognized as an NSAA Academic All State Student, always on the SHS Honor Roll, an SHS Student of the Month and was one of the Sophomore Pilgrims her Sophomore year of school.

 

She is involved with her youth group at Hillcrest Evangelical Free Church in Seward.

Amber participated in classes teaching jazz, tap and ballet dance lessons.

 

Her summer employment centers on child care and baby sitting.  She is also employed at the House of Davisson Video Store in Seward.

 

Her “Service Above Self” accomplishment included a mission trip to the New Orleans area to serve the area children and her four years of work as a volunteer with the Special Olympics Softball Team.  She has enjoyed both experiences and hopes to continue with the softball team and attend more mission projects.

 

Amber plans to attend Concordia University in Seward and hopes to participate with their softball team and possibly study towards an education degree or pharmacy degree. 

 

The Youth Rotarians of the Month will be honored at the annual SHS Honors Night in May and that is when the winner of the “Service Above Self “ scholarship award.  The Rotary honors one senior a month with the Youth Rotarian of the Month Award based on scholarship, involvement and service to others.
