Sydney van der Heijden, SHS Senior, is the May “Fine Arts Youth of the Month”

SHS Senior, Sydney van der Heijden of rural Seward, is the May Fine Arts Youth of the Month and honored for a variety of involvement with the Arts at Seward High.She has been involved in the One Act/Play Productions at SHS for the last three years-participating the competition show this last year.

She also participated in the SHS Musicals and the VFW Voice of Democracy Speech Contest.She participated in numerous writing workshops, while at SHS and was recognized several times for her writing, recently winning First Place in the State Short Story Contest for the High School Division of the GFWC Nebraska Federation of Women’s Clubs, has won the Bess Streeter Aldrich Short Story Contest and recently was recognized and read her poetry at the Poetry Of Place Poetry Contest at the State Capitol in Lincoln.

She is also an artist and photographer, winning numerous awards with her visual art in the State GFWC NFWC High School Art contest, and is the State Champion in 3 D animation in the SKILLS USA State Contest –and will compete at SKILLS USA Nationals in Kansas City in June.She is also a member of the SHS FFA.

She plans to attend Southeast Community College in Milford and Lincoln in Graphic Design. She is the oldest child of Joanne andTwan van der Heijden.
