Seward Middle School Outdoor Education

On August 20th the Seward Middle School sixth graders along with twenty-four high school counselors, loaded up the buses at Seward Middle School and made the trip to Camp Carol Joy Holling near Ashland, NE.  Once again it was a successful three days full of fun, sun, and a lot of educational activities.  It was nice to see so many parents and other family members at the program on Thursday night that once again featured a hoop-dancing performance by Dallas Chief-Eagle.  The 6th grade teachers as well as a few other present and past SMS staff members come out to teach sessions and spend time with the kids.  Some stayed over night and were essentially on call 24 hours a day.  Hats off to those staff members for a job well done.

Overall the 2014 Seward Outdoor Education was a success.  The food was good, fish were caught, and there were many outdoor lessons learned and experienced during our three days at Camp Carol Joy Holling.  It was evident most kids had mixed feeling when they left.  It was hard to say goodbye to the camp, but they were ready to come home, see their parents, and sleep in their own beds.

Plans are already being made for the 2015 SMS Outdoor Ed. experience.  We are expecting that it will be just as rewarding and fun as this one.
