Jesse Rood is November Youth Rotarian of the Month

Seward High Senior, Jesse Rood is the November Youth Rotarian of the Month. He is the son of David  and  Jennifer Rood of Seward.  He was introduced, recognized and honored at the recent Seward Rotary Club meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 19th at noon at the Jones National Bank and Trust Auditorium.  Jesse was presented Rotary mementos and a Rotary banner.

Jesse is a student athlete/scholar and has been a member of the Seward High football team for the last three years, earning a varsity letter the last two years.  He was also a member of the SHS Baseball team the last four years and has earned a varsity letter in baseball the last three years-and was named to the Academic All Conference and State award list.

Jesse is an Honor student-a member of the SHS National Honor Society and been listed on the SHS Honor Roll the last four years-14 times.

He has been a leader in the SHS Key Club and involved in their various activities.  He is a four year member of the SHS Select Choir and SHS Swing Choir.  He also participated in the local VFW Voice of Democracy Speech contest.

Jesse is employed in the summer at the Dowding Memorial pool as a lifeguard and swimming instructor.

His community service activities include working with the Seward Crime Stoppers, the Youth Fishing Competition, volunteering at the Seward Youth Baseball Camps and as an Outdoor Education Counselor.

His “Service Above Self” involve various youth sponsored activities-as he was and is very involved with the local, Seward Youth Baseball programs and Seward Baseball camps.  He has also worked with many youth at the Dowding Pool, assisting in teaching them how to swim and enjoy the water.  He feels valuable life lessons can be gained from both experiences and enjoys watching the young children grown with added knowledge and skill levels that they may learn from him.

He plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with an undecided major.

Jesse will be honored again at the Seward High Seniors Honors Night in the spring, when the club announces and awards the Youth Rotarian of the Year award/scholarship from the monthly finalists.  He will be awarded a book scholarship at that gathering as well, as a monthly finalist.
