Macy Perdue Named January Youth Rotarian of the Month

Macy Perdue, Seward High Senior, was named the January Youth Rotarian of the Month for the Seward Rotary Club.  She is the daughter of Bradley and Jill Perdue of Seward.  Macy was a guest at the weekly Seward Rotary Club meeting on Wednesday, January 7, 2014 at the Jones National Bank and Trust of Seward at their noon luncheon in the bank auditorium.  She was introduced at the meeting, presented some Rotary mementos and a Rotary banner along with a Rotary book scholarship.

Macy has been involved with Key Club for the last four years and very active with a variety of their club’s service projects. One of her favorite activities is the annual, SHS Key Club’s International Multicultural Fair, showcasing the countries of the world.  She is also an active, four year member of the Seward High FCCLA (Family Career, Community Leaders of America) and has been a leader with many of their community service projects as well.   Specifically, she enjoys volunteering to assist the homeless and feed the residents of the Lincoln City Mission at their monthly visit to work in the City Mission kitchen at meal time with the SHS FCCLA.

She enjoyed playing volleyball at Seward High and participated in the volleyball program at SHS for several years.  Her favorite activity involves swimming and works at the Seward Dowding Memorial Swimming Pool each summer, teaching swimming lessons and working as a lifeguard.  She also teaches private swimming lessons at the pool as well.

Macy and her family are members of the Seward United Methodist Church and is a longtime member of their Godparent Program and the various youth activities at the church.  She is ready and willing volunteer and always willing serve as a voice of youth for the church.  She also volunteers as a babysitter for the church as well.

She is a willing community volunteer for the Seward Youth and Community Club (SYCC) and has been involved with the Seward Fishing Contest, worked at the recycling center and a willing CASA volunteer with their many activities and projects.  She specifically enjoyed working the food booth for the SYCC at the Seward County Fair each year.

Macy currently works at Allure Fashions in Seward and enjoys meeting and serving the public after school and on weekends.  She also is involved with a host of children in the area, employed as their babysitter.

Her “Service Above Self” activities have been served through her volunteer work with Key Club and FCCLA-serving the community with a wide range of volunteer efforts.  She has been a youth leader with CASA and with the SYCC and very active with their various community projects.

Her plans after school include attending Iowa Western in the area of nursing, to serve and care for patients and to help people. 

Macy will be honored again at the SHS Honors Night in the spring.  She is a finalist for the Seward Rotary
“Service Above Self” scholarship and be recognized and thanked for her service to others at that Honors Evening.  The Seward Rotary Club honors one SHS senior each month.  Applications are available at the SHS Counselor’s Office.
