Makenzie Hemphill is the January Fine Arts Youth of the Month

Seward High senior, Makenzie Hemphill is the SHS Fine Arts Youth of the Month.  She is the daughter Ann Briggs and Joshua Hemphill of Seward.  Makenzie has been involved in a host of Fine Arts activities her entire high school career, and evolved early as a leader in a variety of Fine Arts areas at Seward High.

She has been a member of the SHS Select Choir, Concert Choir, various small ensembles, a soloist for the choir and a member of the SHS Swing /Show Choir, also serving as the lead choreographer for the Swing Choir presentations and shows.  She was a soloist at the annual SHS Opening Night and a member of the Concordia University Summer Chamber Choir and participated in the annual Concordia Musical Arts Day. She has enjoyed the lead role in three musicals at SHS.

She is a two year member of the SHS Speech team, double entered in Serious Prose and Duet, she participated in both the VFW Voice of Democracy Speech Contest and the SHS Poetry Out Loud annual poetry recitation contest.  Makenzie has been also very active with the SHS One Act/Play Production program, and involved with lead roles in the annual competition show for three years.  She has been selected Outstanding Actress at both the Central Conference and NSAA District play production contests for the last three years.

She was a member of the Centennial Players Melodrama this last year during the summer, performing also on the Seward Fourth of July stage in the Old Glory Theater  this last year.
