Kyle Glandt Honored as Youth Rotarian of the Month for April by the Seward Rotary Club

SHS Senior, Kyle Glandt was selected and honored as the April Youth Rotarian of the Month at the April 1st weekly noon club’s meeting at the Jones National Bank Auditorium.  He was introduced to the club by Rotarian Clark Kolterman and presented with a Rotary Club banner and club mementos, along with a book scholarship.  Kyle is the son of Kip and Stephanie Glandt of Seward.

Kyle is an SHS Honor student and a leader and longtime member of the Seward High National Honor Society.  His name is always on the SHS Honor Roll (all 17 Honor Rolls to date) and has served as a student mentor and tutor throughout his career.  He is a member of the top 10% of his class.  He is a member of the SHS Academic Decathlon Team, competing with the team at the regional level and qualifying for the State Academic Decathlon Team contest in Omaha at UNO.  At the state contest, he competed in the Medium/Large School Division and was awarded the top gold medal and Championship in the Essay competition over all of the Honors Division student’s essays in the Medium and Large School division!

Kyle’s athletic ability’s focus is on both the Cross Country and the Track program in Track and Field and he has been involved in these SHS programs for all four years of his high school career and a longtime letterman in the events.  He was recognized with the Central Conference and NSAA Academic All State award.  He is a leader of the various relay teams and has competed at the state level of NSAA track three times to date.

He has been involved in the SHS One Act program all four years and most recently competed in the SHS competitive one act “The Suessification of Romeo and Juliet.”  He is a loyal senior leader on the SHS Speech team, competition this year in the SHS Oral Interpretation of Drama (OID) team and also performed duets for speech.  He has participated in the VFW Speech contest as well.

 He has also held membership and leadership positions in the SHS Skills USA program, competing on the state and national level of Skills USA in Basic Health Care.  He has also competed on various SHS Quiz Bowl teams as well as the Academic Decathlon Quiz Bowl team at the State Competition.

Kyle is one of the longtime leaders of the SHS Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and participates on a regular basis with their various programs.  He was named SHS Student of the Month twice!

Kyle is a longtime member of Saint John Lutheran Church in Seward and an active voice of the youth program at St. John.  He is a loyal member of his Godparent program and willing serves in a variety of avenues in the church and education program.  He has attended various youth gathering programs at the State and National level, representing St. John Lutheran Church, as well with the church youth group.

Kyle works during the summer as a detassler  for Premier Detasseling of Lincoln and enjoys field work each summer.

His “Service to Others” rallies around the community service activities at the St. John Youth program and his work with Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He has also worked with a variety of youth educational programs during the summer in various Vacation Bible School programs with area congregations, along with working with the Summer Horizon’s programs.

Kyle plans to attend the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and pursue the Field of Education, eventually hoping to become a teacher of Math and coach.

Kyle will again be honored and recognized at the SHS Honors Day program as a Youth Rotarian of the Month and his name will be placed in competition for the Youth Rotarian of the Year award.  Nominations are taken monthly and students are recognized each month as the youth Rotarian of the Month.  Applications are available in the SHS Counselors’ office and one more Youth Rotarian of the Month will be recognized for the month of May.
