Rojewski named February Youth Rotarian of the Month

Kyle Rojewski, a senior at Seward High, was recognized by the Seward Rotary Club as the February Youth Rotarian of the Month on Wednesday, February 03, 2016 at the Jones National Bank and Trust in Seward during the weekly Seward Rotary Club noon luncheon.   Kyle is involved in a variety of settings, both on the academic and with many of the extra-curricular activities at Seward High School. Kyle is a leader in many of these activities at Seward High School and has established himself as a role model among his fellow students. 

Kyle has been involved with and is a four year member of the SHS Marching Band as “lead” trumpet and often soloist-participating in Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Pep Band and Jazz Band, and serves as a section leader with the groups.

He has been involved in the SHS Musical for three years with the lead role and a member/leader/soloist of the SHS Select Choir.  Kyle is also a key soloist at many Show Choir and Choir competitions for Seward High’s vocal groups, participating as a soloist in events, such as the annual District Music Contest and won the GFWC District IV Fine Arts Festival Musical award.  He was recently selected from auditions to be a representative in the annual All State Choir program and annually participates in the Concordia University Musical Arts Day. 

Academically, Kyle is a leader in the classroom, works well with other students and always on the SHS Honor Roll.  He was selected to be an SHS Student of the Month and an SHS Fine Arts Student of the Month.

Kyle is a member of the SHS Varsity Speech team, always double entered in two events.  He was the District winner in Serious Prose Literature last year and competed at the State Speech contest in Kearney, winning all Superior ratings. He was the local winner and District finalist and regional finalist in the VFW Voice of Democracy Speech Contest, and annually participates in Poetry Out Loud competition, sponsored by the Seward Arts Council and Nebraska Arts Council.  

He has been an involved leader in the SHS One Act plays for the last two years at Seward high school, and has enjoyed the lead role both years  in the competition selected one act play-receiving a top acting award as Outstanding Actor at both the Central Conference and District Levels both years.  This year, he wrote, directed and was an actor in his one act play “Java Good Day,” which was selected to be one of our three presentations at Seward High’s annual “Evening of One Acts!”

Kyle also participates in the annual Summer Concordia University Summer High School Chamber Choir program-performing in various presentations to the community throughout the summer.  He has also been a lead actor, usually the hero in the Seward community melodrama /theatre presentations during the summer months the last three summers.

He is a member of Seward United Methodist Church in Seward and an active, involved voice for their youth program.  He is a member of the Youth group, has participated in their Godparent youth program, and sings in the Church Choir.  One of Kyle’s responsibility’s is to produce and film the weekly Seward United Methodist Church worship service, which is distributed to the membership and placed on the local cable channel. Kyle is employed by the Seward United Methodist Church on a part time basis.

One of Kyle’s hobbies and interests is film and he is involved in a variety of independent film/video projects for friends, Seward High and community groups.  He was recently selected as a student honoree for the Film and New Media Category of the Hixon Lied College of Fine Arts at the University of Nebraska and recognized on the UNL campus during a recent Honors Day.

Kyle’s “Service Above Self” emphasis has been working with children and young adults  He has a real connection to children and has been very involved with youth of all ages in a variety of educational settings-especially in musical and theatrical settings.  He has worked closely with young children in his church in various settings-such as church programs and Vacation Bible School.  He has worked with young adults on stage, assisting and directing them to a successful theater and musical performances. For the last three years, he has worked with youth in the community, during his summer theater performances as the annual “Hero” in the Centennial Player’s melodrama’s, which are staged every summer in Seward.  Kyle is patience, soft spoken and demonstrates a real understanding as he works with the youth of our community!

Kyle is very talented with so many interests and is very good at all of them!  He plans to attend the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, in the area of Fine Arts and Film and New Media.

Kyle was presented with various mementos and Rotary information.  He was awarded a book scholarship and is now a finalist for the annual Seward Rotary Club “Service Above Self” scholarship, awarded in May at the annual Seward High Honors Night.

Applications for the Seward Youth Rotarian of the Month are ongoing and available at the SHS Counselor’s office or SHS Room 116.  A Youth Rotarian is selected and honored every month Seward High is in session.
