Courtney Meyer Named April Seward Youth Rotarian of the Month

SHS Senior, Courtney Meyer was selected the April Seward Youth Rotarian of the Month. She is the daughter of Mike and Stacey Meyer of Seward.  She was honored at the April 6, 2016 weekly Seward Rotary Club meeting at the Jones National Bank and Trust Auditorium.  She was introduced and presented with a book scholarship, a Rotary Banner and mementos and information on Rotary International. 

Courtney has been involved with the SHS One Acts all four years and was part of this year’s competition one act-playing two roles!  She participated in the SHS Poetry Out Loud poetry recitation contest, as well as the local Seward VFW Voice of Democracy Contest.  She is a member and leader of the SHS Student Council.  She has been on the SHS Honor Roll ten times during her high school career.

She is also a four year member of the SHS Swing Choir, the Select Choir, the many SHS musicals-enjoying the lead role this year.  She was a soloist at Opening Night and sings in several small groups and soloist for District Music Contest.  She was an alternate for All State Choir and a member of the Summer Chamber Choir for several years and a soloist for her church as well.

Courtney is in the SHS Marching Bluejay Band-as a trombone player and also a member of the SHS Pep Band-participating in the annual Concordia Musical Arts Day.  She enjoys art and has taken every art class offered at Seward High School.  She often serves as a soloist at her church-the Rock Lutheran Church in Seward and a voice of the youth in the congregation.   She has taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and attended the National Youth Gatherings for the church.

She was very active as a member of the Southeast Community College Career Academy (SENCAP) Program in 2015 and 2016 in the Certified Nursing Program and Early Childhood Education.

Her Service Above Self is often carried out through her church and the various activities surrounding the church.  She has participated in a variety of “painting projects,” road side clean up and volunteered many times at the Seward Recycling Center with her family!  She is a willing volunteer and often called upon to assist where needed for the numerous activities of her church, as they construct their new facility.

She is employed at Ridgewood and Sengenta . 

Courtney plans to attend the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and eventually attend the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha and become a Labor and Delivery Nurse.

She is now a finalist for the Seward Rotary “Youth Rotarian of the Year” award and again be recognized at the May SHS Honors Night.  A Youth Rotarian of the Month is honored every month  school is in session and applications can be obtained from Room 116 or the Counselor’s office.
