Josh Behlen Named May Youth Rotarian of the Month

SHS Senior, Josh Behlen of Seward, was selected one of the Seward Rotary Youth Rotarians of the Month.  He is the son of Steve and  Kelly Behlen of Seward.  He was honored on Wednesday, May 11 at noon at the Jones National Bank and Trust in Seward at the Rotary noon luncheon.  Josh was introduced, honored and presented with Rotary mementos and a Rotary Book Scholarship.

Josh is a student scholar/athlete, active all four years with the SHS Football Team.  He also wrestled for two years and is a four year member of the SHS Track and Field team.  He has generated numerous awards and honors through his athletic endeavors and works to assist others in reaching their athletic accomplishments as well!

Josh is also a scholar and strong in the classroom setting as well as on the playing field!  He is a longtime leader of the SHS National Honor Society and participated in a variety of their activities and programs.  He is a continuous member of the SHS Honor Roll and was a Student of the Month.

Josh is a three year member of the Key Club Service Group, a three year member of Skills,USA and a four year member of the Future Business Leaders of America and a longtime leader with that organization. He has attended numerous conferences and workshops for the organizations and has been recognized many times with honors by these groups at the state level.

He was a member of the SHS Speech program and participated in Poetry Out Loud and the VFW Voice of Democracy Speech Contest. 

Josh is a member of the SHS Symphonic Band, the SHS Marching Band and the SHS Jazz Band and SHS Drum Line , along with the membership in the SHS Swing Choir for four years!

He has been a devoted field employee for the Sloup Thorell Field Work for many years and also works with the Behlen Video and Photography group, as well as Behlen DJ Services.

Many of his community service endeavors center around the various programs offered through his service club memberships.  He also has been involved with his church’s mission trips to New Orleans to serve others for a 10 day mission trip each of the last three summers, working with children and poverty levels that are all a challenge.

Josh plans to attend UNL and study engineering. He will major in computer engineering.  He also hopes to “walk on” at the UNL football program and if that does not work out, try out for the UNL pep band as a drummer!

The Seward Rotary Club honored Josh Behlen and recognized him  for his “Service Above Self”—which is also the Rotary Club motto!
