Seward County, GFWC Seward Woman’s Club and FCCLA “Make A Difference” on October 21/22

The GFWC Seward Woman’s Club, the Seward High FCCLA, and volunteers from the Community of Seward County participated in the annual, national “Make A Difference” Day throughout Seward County to aid and assist others in a variety of projects, on the official, national “Make a Difference Day” on Friday, October 21 and Saturday, October 22.  Seward has been recognized many times for their outstanding leadership and exemplary programing with the local GFWC Seward Woman’s Club “Make a Difference” Day promotion!

“I think we set a record for food products donated this year for Seward’s ‘Make a Difference Day’!” stated Kim Fisher-President of the GFWC Seward Woman’s Club.  “The community of Seward is most generous with their donations of food and products to help their neighbors in need and we want everyone to realize the donations to the project are very much appreciated.”

The local GFWC Seward Woman’s Club and SHS FCCLA Chapter collected food products and various household essentials for the seven food pantries in Seward County.  The van loads of food products were then sorted and divided by members of the GFWC Seward Woman’s Club, volunteers from the community and SHS FCCLA.  Their campaign was called “Stuff the Cart” and encourages local shoppers to donate food stuffs for the local pantries in Seward, Milford and Utica.  Food and money was collected in Seward, Milford and Utica Pac and Save, the local Seward Walmart.  The food collected in Seward will stay in Seward County and the food collected in Milford and Utica will also remain in their perspective communities.  Donations will also be made to the Beaver Crossing Food Pantry.  Over two pick-up loads of food products (almost 1900 pounds!) were collected for the seven pantries in Seward County.

Money was collected and distributed to the seven pantries as well.  The cash donations to each pantry will supplement the pantry with specific needed food products.

The GFWC Seward Woman’s Club/SHS FCCLA also sponsored a clothing drive to assist the homeless and less fortunate in the Living Water Rescue Mission in York, NE.  Three SUV’s full of clothes/ and household goods were collected and delivered to the Living Water Rescue Mission of York by local GFWC Seward Club members and their families, along with friends from the Beaver Crossing area.

“Make a Difference” Day is a nationally recognized program, endorsed by the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs, Inc. (GFWC), the national organization of the GFWC Seward Woman’s Club and the national Family Community Career Leaders of America (FCCLA) organization.  Donations are still being accepted by contacting the GFWC Seward Woman’s Club, Jean Kolterman, 1059 Plainview,  Seward, NE 68434 at 402-643-3803 or email her at dk05811@windstream.net.
