Kevin Lyon Named Fine Arts Youth of the Month at SHS for the Month of November

SHS Senior, Kevin Lyon is named the SHS Fine Arts Youth of the Month of November for his longtime participation and leadership role in the area of Fine Arts at Seward High.   He is the son of Pastor Rod and Dr. Ann Lyon of Seward.

Kevin is a leader in the SHS Marching Band, involved in percussion section and is also a member of the Jazz Band, Pep Band, Symphonic Band and a Marching Band section leader.  He performed solo xylophone pieces at District Music and has been selected for Doane College Honor Band, Concordia Musical Arts Day and Central Conference Honor Band.  He also plays the piano and assists with his talent at the piano at the Raymond Methodist Church.

He has been a longtime member of the SHS Speech Team, participating in Extemporaneous and Oral Interp of Drama (OID) events and was a team medalist in several tournaments.  He has also participated in the annual “Poetry Out Loud” local poetry recitation contest, and the local Seward VFW Voice of Democracy Speech Contest.  He has been in many of the SHS One Act productions and a member of the cast for the SHS Competition show this year for Conference and District contests.

Kevin is a member of the award winning SHS Quiz Bowl team and served as the team captain.  He was also the SHS Boys State Representative sponsored by the Garland American Legion his junior year. 

He is also longtime volunteer with the Seward United Methodist Church in Seward in a variety of volunteer capacities. 

Kevin plans to attend UNL in the Field of Study of International Relations and hopes to be involved in some aspect international activities after college.
