Seward Varsity Quiz Bowl Team Places Third at Annual Metro/Ralston Quiz Bowl

The Seward High Varsity Quiz Bowl team was a awarded the third place trophy at the recent Ralston Quiz Bowl this year at Ralston High School. Seward had four teams in the tourney-two Varsity and two Novice teams.  The third place Varsity Quiz Bowl team was Seward Varsity Team A- with Evan Mettenbrink, Riley Pollock and Evan Nottingham. 

The SHS Teams consisted of Varsity Team A-Evan Mettenbrink, Evan Nottingham and Riley Pollock.  Varsity Team B was Thomas Bosmeniel, Chris Galusha, Chase Prochnow and Clint Koetter.  SHS Novice Team members were SHS Novice Team A Jarod Harris, Austin Dobrusky, David Clark, Andrew Gokie and Ethan Koetter.  SHS Novice Team B included Jack Yelden, Alec Sackschewsky, and Brady Smith.  Clark Kolterman serves as the team coach and sponsor. He also served as a reader/judge for the contest at Ralston.

The teams competed in the morning Round Robin contest with four other schools in preliminary matches on general knowledge questions.  In the afternoon there was a single elimination tourney with Seward Varisty placing third, defeated by the winning school Norris, where Seward missed the finals by one question!  Norris won the tourney, with Elkhorn South named runner up and Seward was Second Runner up, defeating Nebraska City-130 to 125!

Schools participating in this Metro Tourney included Blair, Brownell Talbot, Columbus, Concordia High, Elkhorn, Elkhorn South, Fremont, Lincoln East, Lincoln South West, Marian of Omaha, Nebraska City, Norris, Omaha Central, Papillion-LaVista, Platteview, Seward, Tekamah-Herman, and Woodbine, IA.

The Seward High Quiz Bowl teams are sponsored by the School District of Seward and the School District of Seward High Ability Learner Program (HAL).
