Nana Abenna Wright Named Youth Rotarian of the Month!

Nana Abenaa Wright, Seward High Senior, was named the March Seward Rotary Club Youth Rotarian of the Month.  She is the daughter of Arif Wright and Maria Owusu.  Nana Abenna was introduced and recognized at the March 1, 2017 Rotary Club meeting at the Jones National Bank and Trust Auditorium in Seward at their luncheon meeting. She was presented various Rotary mementos and a Rotary Club banner.  Nana Abenaa Wright was presented with a Rotary book scholarship and is a finalist for the Youth Rotarian of the Year.

Nana Wright is a very involved young women at Seward High.  She has been an involved leader and  member of the Family Community Career Leaders of American (FCCLA) for three years, as well as playing a leadership role with the SHS Key Club for two years-working closely with the Senior Citizen Prom.  She is also a member of the ‘IBELONG” service organization/group. 

Fine Arts are important to Nana and she has been involved in the SHS speech team for two years, winning first in Poetry and Duet at the Concordia University Tourney this year and was a Conference Medalist in both Poetry and Duet.  She has also been involved with the Drama team (OID) at SHS and participated in the various Nebraska State Fair contests in the Education Division.  She enjoyed a lead role in the SHS Competition One Act and was one of nine local VFW Voice of Democracy Speech finalists locally, and placed third on the District level  in the VFW Voice of Democracy Speech Contest.  She has also been involved in Poetry Out Loud, competing on the local level. 

Academics are important to Nana Abenaa Wright, who consistently is on the SHS Honor Roll.  She is a leader in the SHS Student Council and has been named SHS Student of the Month and the recipient of the SHS PRIDE Award, several times.  She enjoys writing and attended and represented SHS at several student writing workshops, along with various Drama Workshops.  She has also participated in the local Quiz Bowl program at SHS.

Nana Abenaa is also a member of the SHS Marching Bluejays Marching Band and a member of their award winning Color Guard for 2017.

Her work experience outside of school includes working at the Mahoney State Park as a Catering Assistant and locally at the Seward Runza. 

Nana Abenaa Wright has demonstrated her “Service Above Self” working with a variety of students with various issues, serving as a mentor for these children.  She also played a lead role with the local Senior Citizen Prom and participated in numerous charity collections through her memberships in FCCLA and Key Club.  She also enjoys working with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was a longtime volunteer as a film assistant for the JV and Varsity Basketball teams at SHS.

Her dream is to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln and study Psychology and Biology and eventually become a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist. 

The Seward Rotary recognized Nana Abenaa Wright for her leadership and service to others, and feels she well represents the high ideals of scholarship, leadership and service of the successful, local Seward Youth Rotarians and they are happy to place her name in nomination for the “Service Above Self” Youth Rotarian of the Year!
