Bosmeniel Named Youth Rotarian of the Month at Seward Rotary Club

Named the August Youth Rotarian of the Month was SHS Senior, Thomas Bosmeniel of Ulysses, NE.  His is the son of Anne Downing of Ulysses and Raul Bosmeniel of Lincoln.  He was recognized and honored at the August 9 Seward Rotary Club meeting, held at the noon luncheon at the Basement Meeting Rooms of the Seward Civic Center.  Thomas was recognized for his outstanding career at SHS both academically and with a variety of extracurricular activities while in high school.

He is an outstanding volunteer in the high school-involved in many aspects of Skills USA-currently serving as a local officer -- qualifying for national competition-placing in the top 15 teams at the National Contest!   He is always on the SHS Honor Roll and is considered one of the leaders in the SHS National Honor Society as well!  He is a loyal, active member of the SHS FFA Chapter.

Thomas is one of the Captains of the SHS Speech team-competing in the area of Persuasive Speaking and Poetry. He was the SHS Representative to the State Poetry Out Loud Contest in 2016 and placed second overall at State.  He was a District Finalist for the VFW Voice of Democracy Speech Contest and place First Runner Up at the District Level.  He was also named Third Place at the State American Legion Speech Contest, after winning the local District and Regional American Legion Speech Contests.  He was the Boys Champion Speaker at the Nebraska Oratorical Speech Contest and was selected the Nebraska Representative to the National Optimist Oratorical Speech Contest.  He was a state finalist for the FFA Speech contest in the area of Cooperatives, winning the District level of Pubic Speaking with the FFA.

Thomas is a member of the SHS Choir and has been involved in the most recent Musical!  He has faithfully represented SHS at the annual Nebraska State Fair Education Division competitions and won numerous awards and recognitions in their various educational contests and events.

Thomas participated in the One Act Plays at Seward High and was selected to receive the Outstanding Actor Award at the Central Conference and District Play Production contests, where the play also received Superior Ratings.  He participated in the local Chautauqua Vaudeville show on July 4 and assisted with the local July 4 Children’s Museum as a volunteer.

Thomas is the leader and one of the team captains for the SHS Academic Decathlon Team and also part of the very successful SHS Quiz Bowl team.  He has been recognized as an SHS Student of the Month and recipient of many of the PRIDE Awards at SHS.

He was the SHS/Seward Boys State Representative for 2017 and was selected to be the School District of Seward High School Student Representative.

In the area of “Service Above Self,” Thomas has gathered many hours of community service while in high school through his involvement with his service clubs, as he participates in a host of volunteer efforts to assist others through his school organizations!  He has devoted many hours above the call to the drama and speech program and was a leader with the recent Nebraska Sesquicentennial Children’s Museum volunteer team

Thomas currently plans for college are to attend the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, with Broadcasting as is his major.  He was presented a book scholarship from the Seward Rotary Club and sponsored by Kolt Cattle Company.  He was given Rotary mementos and information and a Rotary Club banner!  He will now be considered a finalist for the Seward Rotary Youth Rotarian of the Year to be announced at Honors Night in May. 

The Seward Rotary Club recognizes one Youth Rotarian a Month and applications are available from the SHS Counselor’s office.
