Madalyn Lobmeyer Represents SHS at 2020 State Poetry Outloud Contest– Finishes in Top Five

SHS Senior, Madalyn Lobmeyer was selected one of the top five finalists in the annual Nebraska Poetry Outloud State Contest at the UNL Sheldon Art Gallery Auditorium in Lincoln on Sunday afternoon, March 8, 2020 at 1:00 pm.  She is the daughter of Jonathan and Amy Lobmeyer of Seward.

She was required to present three poems, with one 25 lines or less and one pre 19th Century.  She selected the following poetry for the State POL Contest…”Abecedarian Requiring Further Examination of Anglikan Seraphym Subjugation of a Wild Indian Reservation” by Natalie Diaz, “A Song: Lying is an Occupation” by Laetitia Pilkington, and “Advice” from La Llorona by Deborah A. Miranda. 

Madalyn won the local SHS Poetry Outloud Contest, qualified in the POL Regional Contest and was selected to compete as one of the top five finalists at the State Contest.  She was also a state POL Qualifier her Sophomore Year, representing SHS as well.  

The 2020 Nebraska POL Champ is Juan De La Cruz of Gordon Rushville High School, First Runner-up was Jayden Leonard of Thayer Central High School and Lauren Hubert of Skutt was Second Runner-up.  

Madalyn’s poetry teacher at SHS is SHS Speech/English teacher Erica Crouch.  The State Contest is sponsored by the Nebraska Arts Council.  Nebraska Arts Council “Artist in Residence,” Pippa White of Lincoln, NE visited SHS and worked with the various students in preparation of their poetry presentations.
