JAG students helping with posters

The Seward High JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates) Classes, under the direction of Mr John Moody, prepared all the promotional posters to promote the approaching Can Care-A-Van food drive which is to be in Seward June 25th at Pac and Save on Hwy 34.  The posters will be distributed across the Greater Seward area and help promote the local, area food drive in June.

“This was just one of many community service projects and efforts of the local JAG program and a great way to end the school year,” commented Mr. Moody.  “We are happy to work on projects in the community, especially if they have a direct correlation to helping others, and this project “fits the criteria.  We hope the effort raises awareness and brings in the thousands of pounds of the established goal. JAG is happy to help and appreciated all of our opportunities this year of community service.”

Students preparing the posters included Landen Bryant, Alex Mobley, Maddy Rangel, Marc Weiland, Daryann Rodriguez, Jesse Hemsath, Alando Birkel, Aiden Crouse, Dominic Donner, Carter Gardiner, Devin Blum.  Also, Dane Blum, Bradley Kieinert, Payton Samek, Sophia Sheehan and Mr. Moody, sponsor.

The KOLN-KGIN TV Channel 10-11 “Can Care-A-Van” announced it will be in Seward at the Seward Pac and Save on Thursday, June 25th from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM in front of Pac and Save.  “This is a wonderful opportunity for Seward to promote their special, supplemental food outlets to assist those in need in the Seward area,” noted Clark Kolterman, Rotary Club Food Drive Chairman. “All the local, international service organizations have joined forces to make this event happen and we are confident we will make our goal of 3,000 pounds.”

“We are asking you to help us make our goal of 3,000 pounds of food to be distributed to the four Seward Food Pantries: St. John Lutheran Church’s “Christ’s Cupboard,” the Seward United Methodist’s “Food Net,” the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the Seward County Blue Valley Community Action Pantry,” Commented Bonnie Kruse of the GFWC Seward Woman’s Club.  “Would you please consider a food drive or sending funds to support our annual cause?  We are looking for non-perishable food items and cash donations for the local pantries.  All of the money and food stays in Seward for distribution.”

“Food drives and collections are being held across the community during the month of June, with the food delivered to the weigh in site -Pac and Save- on June 25th, from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM.  Please consider a food drive or a cash donation or both for this effort,” said Gerald Meyer, Kiwanis Food Drive Chair. “For example, you can drop off food at the Nebraska National Guard Museum for Kiwanis, or the Seward Civic Center, where the GFWC has collection site by the front door.”

The local sponsors, along with the area Food Pantries, are the International Service Groups in Seward: the Seward Rotary Club, the GFWC Seward Woman’s Club, the GFWC Seward Junior Woman’s Club and the Seward Kiwanis Club.

Checks can be mailed to or delivered to Paul Mueller at Pac and Save, and should be made out to Seward Rotary Club, who will divide the cash to all four designated groups. Please make your check to Seward Rotary Club.  Cash counts towards poundage-example $1 is equal to two pounds of food collected. Mail checks to Pac and Save-CAN CARE A VAN, Paul Mueller, Pac and Save, 1519 US 34, Seward, NE 68434.  Example: A $250.00 check would equal 500 pounds of food and be divided between the four pantries.

“We have enjoyed and appreciated all the community’s support over the years and look forward to a successful day collecting food and cash for the area pantries,” stated Paul Mueller. “Thank you Seward for your continued support!”
