Theresa Honeycutt Selected October Youth Rotarian
Seward High Senior, Theresa Honeycutt was selected the 2008 October Youth Rotarian of the Month and recognized and honored by the Seward Club at their October 8th luncheon meeting held at noon at the Jones National Bank and Trust in Seward. She is the daughter of Kathy Honeycutt and Lehman Honeycutt of Seward. She was introduced by Rotarian Max Wake and honored by the Club President Susan Tonniges. Theresa received a packet of information and mementos from the Rotary Club and a book scholarship. She will be recognized and honored in May at Honors Night. She is also a finalist for the Rotary Service Above Self Scholarship to be awarded on Honors Night to one of the Rotarians of the Month.
Theresa is a National Merit Scholar Semi Finalist and plans to attend UNL, Iowa State, Kansas State or Georgetown University. She plans to major in Biology or Chemistry or a Science Field. She hopes for a Pre-Law degree, with a minor in Spanish and eventually plans to attend Law School to become a prosecuting attorney. She presently attends math classes at Concordia University, as well as Seward High School.
She is active in FCCLA Club, as an involved member and participates in their STAR Leadership Program. She is also a member of SKILLS USA Club and participated in the State and National Quiz Bowl Contests and the Math Contests. She is a four year member of SHS Quiz Bowl, serving two years as the Quiz Bowl captain. She is a member and the captain of the SHS Academic Decathlon Team and a volunteer tutor at SHS. Theresa was selected the SHS representative to compete in the National Council of Teachers Writing Competition.
Theresa is a volunteer at the Youth Center, as a tutor to the middle school students and her “Service Above Self” activity involves tutoring non-English speaking students at the high school and in the community. She is a member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church in Seward.
The Seward Rotary honors one outstanding student each month with this award and applications are available in the counselor’s office.
