Roebke Twins Honored as the Youth Rotarians of the Month

The Seward Rotary saw double at their weekly Rotary Club meeting, as they honored identical twins, Ruth and Renee Roebke as the December Youth Rotarians of the Month.  The twins, seniors at Seward High were honored at the December 10 Seward Rotary luncheon meeting at the Jones National Bank and Trust in Seward.  The club recognized both of them and presented them with their Rotary banner and club mementos.  They each received a Rotary Book Scholarship and are now finalists for the Seward Rotary Club Youth Rotarian of the Year award.  They are the youngest children of Bonnie and Glenn Roebke of Seward.

The twins almost have identical resumes and have been very involved as teenagers both in the community and school.  Academically, they both excel and are several of the top students in their class.  They are both members of the National Honor Society of Seward High and always on the SHS Honor Roll. They have both been members and leaders in the SHS Student Council and both have served as Class Officers.

Both girls excel in athletics as well and both have been team leaders during their SHS career in the sports of Volleyball and Softball.  Ruth also has participated and been a leader in the SHS track program as well.  They have been the co-president of the SHS Key Club for two years and served as Outdoor Education counselors.

Both young ladies are voices in the youth program at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward and members of their local St. John Godparent program.  They both taught and assist annually with the St. John Vacation Bible School and Summer Enrichment program-Bright Horizon’s.

The girls have both been employed as detasselers  for Sloup Thorell Detasseling and Schernickau Detasseling  and enjoy babysitting.

In their “Service Above Self “statement both felt their involvement through their church activities and service projects in Key Club have demonstrated their service to others-collecting food, promotion of the local blood drive and other activities involving young people and community/church projects.

Both girls have narrowed their college selection to the University of Nebraska at Kearney or Northwest Missouri State University.

The Seward Youth Rotarian of the Month award is presented monthly to an outstanding student at Seward High for their “Service Above Self”-based on leadership, academics and
“Service Above Self”-the motto of the Rotary International and the Seward Rotary Club.  Each student that is recognized receives a book scholarship and one student is presented the
“Service Above Self” scholarship.  All of the local students are recognized at the annual SHS Honors Day in May.  Forms are available from the SHS Counselor’s office.
