Seward High Wins at Doane Math Competition

Six students from Seward High School competed in the annual Doane triMATHlon, math competition on September 24th at Doane College.  Grant Biggs, Will Brown, Ben Galusha, Josh Hendrickson, Evan Mettenbrink, and Evan Nottingham together help Seward to be champions of the large school division at the competition .

The triMATHlon competition include three different events.  In the "Extreme team" challenge, Seward finished in 2nd place.  The "Extreme team" challenge requires students to work in teams of three as they travel through Doane's campus answering hands-on application math problems within a set amount of time.  In the second component of the competition, Evan Mettenbrink led Seward in the individual written exam where he finished third among many of the top math students in the state.  The third event of the triMATHlon was the Quiz Bowl competition.  Seward was able to win the Quiz Bowl competition, beating teams from Waverly, Omaha Central, and Gretna.

Seward was awarded the overall champion of the large school division based on their combined efforts in all three events.
