Alexa Bruick Top Medalist at Osceola Speech Tournament

SHS Senior, Alexa Bruick captured the First place medal in Extemporaneous Speaking at the recent Osceola Speech Tourney, held at Osceola High School on Saturday, January 30, 2016.  She also was awarded the First Runner up medal in Persuasive Speaking.  Also winning medals at the tourney from Seward were Brodie Oshel-First Runner up in Serious Prose Literature, Will Brown –Sixth Place in Extemporaneous Speaking, Ben Galusaha-First Place Novice in Informative Public Address and Levi Dybdal-First Place Novice in Persuasive Speaking.  The students all competed in three rounds of competition and there is not a sweepstake award for the team effort at this contest.

Students from Seward receiving Superior ratings included Alexa Bruick, Will Brown, Will Helmer, Ben Galusha, Evan Mettenbrink, Evan Nottingham, Alice Hager, Bailey Mooney, Taylor Brodecky, Kenna Gottschalk, Nana Abena Wright, Tiery Bearup, Becca Martin and Sydney Erickson.

The team is coached by Clark Kolterman, assisted by volunteer coach from Concordia University, Stephanie Shearer of Arapahoe, NE.  Volunteer judges for the contest from Seward were Clark Kolterman, Stephanie Shearer, Austin Van Velson, Wyatt Dybdal, Dr. Ryan Foor, and Anita Wolenberg,

The team travels to Aurora next week, followed to contests at David City, David City Aquinas in February.  Holdrege is the site for the Conference Tourney on Feb. 26 and they will attend a Speech Tourney in Waverly in March and the NSAA Districts on March 14 at Raymond Central.
