SHS FCCLA’s “Love and Loot for Levi” End of Year Campaign a Success with Recycled Milk Jug Campaign!

One of the final campaign’s/projects of the local SHS Family, Career and Community Leaders (FCCLA) Chapter was a penny drive to raise funds for classmate, SHS Junior Levi Dybdal, who is currently experiencing major health issues.  The local SHS FCCLA developed a “penny war” to raise funds to assist Levi-with the funds generated to allow him to purchase an item he wanted or needed or to spend it in any way he desired-and, most of all;  remind him that all of SHS was “pulling for his return to school!”  The theme of the coin drive to raise funds for Levi was “Love and Loot for Levi!” The pennies indeed did get collected, as total of $1532.07 was raised through this successful effort!

With the help of Pac and Save Grocery, the FCCLA obtained 50 milk jugs and placed a label on each milk jug,  promoting the theme and a picture of Levi-who was currently “missing from SHS,” due to his health issues.  The jugs were distributed to each classroom the last week of school, along with special jugs also designated for the various SHS Classes, activities and organizations, in an effort to raise funds for the FCCLA campaign for Levi!  The GFWC Seward Woman’s Club offered to buy pizzas for the winner jug from the fundraiser!  The campaign was to last for just one week!

The campaign was presented to the school the last week of the school year and announcements were placed in the school bulletin and read by the voice of SHS-Craig Jirovsky, every morning over the school intercom, encouraging students, faculty and staff to donate their pennies to the various milk jugs throughout the school.  The SHS FCCLA tabulated the funds every other day and kept a running total, announcing who was in the lead.

The final day, a total of $1532.07 was collected, counted and presented to Levi and his family in an effort to assist Levi and let him know he was missed and loved!  FCCLA Project Chairman was SHS Junior, Clarke Chandler, assisted by SHS Sophomore twins, Stefan Gligorevic and Nikolass Gligorevic along with  the chapter members of the SHS FCCLA.  Mrs. Kate Pittack is the SHS FCCLA Chapter advisor.

“This was a very successful fundraiser for our fellow classmate, Levi, as we all joined in to make it work,” stated Clark Chandler-FCCLA Project Chair.  “FCCLA appreciates the fact that the students of SHS were able to demonstrate a unified effort for a fellow student and let Levi know we do care and miss him.  If this small act of kindness helps makes Levi smile and makes his day-then we have succeeded.  Thanks to all who were involved in this act of kindness!  Your generosity is appreciated!”

“The ‘Levi’ fundraiser was a great way to end the year and show the real spirit at SHS,” echoed FCCLA member, Stefan Gligorevic.  “Levi has been very involved at Seward High, especially in the drama and speech programs.  He is really a role model for all of us and his spirit and determination is admired!

Levi is the son of Tausha and Jon Dybdal and he is working very hard to graduate with his class on time this next year!
