Seward High Quiz Bowl Team Places Fifth in Omaha Quiz Bowl

The Seward High Quiz Bowl Team placed Firth over all in an invitation only large quiz bowl contest in Bellevue University’s Annual Quiz Bowl invitational.  Over 32 teams participated in the event on Friday, March 3 in an all day, double elimination quiz bowl tourney on general knowledge.  Each invited school can enter one team only for the event.  The SHS Varsity team included Evan Mettenbrink-Captain, Evan Nottingham, Ryan Wall, Chris Galusha and Josh Sherman. 

The team lost their first round to Gretna High and then defeated Omaha Bryan High, defeated Lincoln Southwest High, defeated Logan Magnolia High from Logan, Iowa, defeated Omaha’s Daniel Gross High and defeated Brownell –Talbot High.  The team then lost to Omaha Westside in the semi-quarter finals of the 32 team tourney, to be named Fifth Place overall.

The team is sponsored locally by the Seward School District and the Seward School District High Ability Learner Program (HAL).  All the members of the team received free tee shirts at the tourney and there was not an entry fee for the tourney. 

The contest was won by Elkhorn High and First Runner-up was Creighton Prep.  Clark Kolterman serves as the Quiz Bowl coach.
