Seward High Quiz Bowl Team First Runner Up at ESU District Quiz Bowl in Seward

The SHS Quiz Bowl Team A was named First Runner up at the recent ESU #6 Quiz Bowl held at the Seward Civic Center in Seward.  There were two divisions for the tourney and the SHS Team A and B were in the Large School Division, competing with 16 other schools.  SHS Team A was the second seed of the tourney in the afternoon contest and defeated Wilber Clatonia, Milford and Filmore Central to compete in the final round against Norris High and lost by one question in an tied, overtime match!

Norris will now represent the Large Schools at the State Tourney in Holdrege in April and Henderson’s Heartland will represent the Small School.   

Team A members included Kevin Lyon-Captain, Evan Nottingham, Ryan Wall and Chris Galusha. Team B members included Jake Marshall, Nolan Homp, Riley Pollock Clarke Chandler and Josh Sherman.The SHS teams are coached by Clark Kolterman-Seward High School.

Readers/Judges for the day included Cliff Lowell, Pat Ohlmann, Tara Plasek-Seward, Nancy and Stan Meyer-Geneva, and Kathy Wilcox-Crete.  Charles Gebhardt served as the Quiz Bowl Master, and Sydney Bristol represented the ESU and served as the coordinator of the tourney. Clark Kolterman was the local Seward contact for the tourney.  Serving as timers and scorers for the day from SHS were Jax Johnson, Wyatt Shafer, Jayden Germer, Clint Koetter, Alec Sackschewsky, Wade Slepicka, Rannon Lyons, Jack Yelden, Chase Prochnow, Kiernan Baker, Brady Smith, and Carson Core.

The Seward Teams are funded and sponsored by the School District of Seward, the Seward High Ability Learner Program (HAL). 

Schools in the tourney included-Small Schools-Centennial, Dorchester, Exeter-Milligan, Friend, Heartland, Malcolm McCool Junction, Nebraska Lutheran, Large Schools included-Seward, Milford, Fillmore Central, Wilber-Clatonia, York, Norris, Crete and Waverly.  Most schools had two teams in the tourney.
