Riley Pollock Youth Rotarian for May

SHS Senior Riley Pollock of Seward is the final Youth Rotarian of the Seward Rotary for 2017.  He is the son of Chad and Rachelle Hinrichs of Seward.  Riley was honored at the May 17, 2017 luncheon at the Seward Jones National Bank Auditorium and presented with mementos and a book scholarship from the Rotary Club.

Riley is involved in a host of activities at SHS and was honored to be in the upper division of his class academically at Honors Night.  He was always on the SHS Honor Roll and a member of the SHS National Honor Society for three years. 

Riley was a member of the award winning senior Quiz Bowl team and attended many Quiz Bowl events over his last four years, winning many along the way!  He also was a member of the SHS Academic Decathlon Team and their AD Quiz Bowl team as well.

Pollock was a longtime, active member of the SHS FFA and often called upon to assist with a host of community service events with the club.

He is a leader and loyal member of the SHS Skills USA vocational education organization for the last four years, participating in a variety of state and national contests with Championships in a host of areas.  At the recent State Skills USA State Contests Riley placed First in Technical Team Problem Solving, First in Quiz Bowl, First in Mouse Trap Car, First in Promotional Bulletin Board, and Third in Bridge Building.  He plans to attend the National Skills USA Conference and contests in Louisville, KY this summer.

He was employed at Syngenta Seeds and currently works at Chartwell’s on the Concordia University campus. 

He is a loyal member of St. John Lutheran Church in Seward and a member of their Godparent program. 

In the area of “Service Above Self” Riley has spent extensive time as a volunteer with the Seward Recycling program, as well as helping with various “Ducks Unlimited” and “Pheasants Forever” programs, along with his numerous community service projects with Skills USA and SHS FFA.  He is a good neighbor to many of his elderly neighbors as well, assisting without any requests!

He plans to attend Southeast Community College in Academic Transfer and eventually attend the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in the area of Ag Engineering. 

Riley was honored also as a Youth Rotarian at the recent SHS Honor’s Night and received a signed, framed certificate with the other nine Youth Rotarians for 2017.
