Transportation Services
The Seward Public School District maintains a fleet of 23 buses to serve the district’s student transportation needs on regular school route and activity trips. The district also provides transportation to some of the local parochial students.
The transportation coordinator oversees 18 drivers. The drivers all hold CDL licenses and receive Level 1 and Level 2 training to meet driver qualifications.
Approximately 28.4% of the district’s 1,340 students ride a bus daily on 12 routes. A shuttle bus system moves students between buildings in the district. Most buses begin their routes at 6:50 a.m. and deliver students home by 4:15 p.m.
Buses are serviced and maintained by two trained mechanics. The district added a new bus equipped to serve special needs students in the 2003-04 school year.
To ensure safety for the students:
- Each bus is equipped with a video camera.
- Bus routes are reviewed annually.
- All students participate in 2 safety and evacuation drills.
- A pre-trip checklist is completed by each driver before each route or activity outing.
