Welcome to the Principal's Corner!

Mrs. Daws

"We are the Bluejays of Seward Elementary
Soaring above the rest.
We are the Bluejays of Seward Elementary
Count on us us to do our best!"

Hi! My name is Lana Daws and I am the principal of Seward Elementary. The above are the first lines of our school song. The students of Seward Elementary do 'soar above the rest' and I can always count on them to do their best! Let me tell you a little bit about our school. Seward Elementary is a K - 4 school with approximately 400 students and a certified and non-certified staff of 45. We have two very simple goals at our school. First, we want our students to have fun learning. Second, we want them to feel safe within our building. Active parent and community involvement is an added dimension to the continued success that we experience at our school! By working together, everyone is a learner and a winner! Of course, we offer the 'basics' of reading, writing, math, spelling.....at our school.

We also offer some 'exciting extras' which supplement and complement our teaching and learning. Some of those extras involve a buddy reading program called 'Friday Friends', a schoolwide Character Counts! program, Accelerated Reader, and a wonderful iMac computer lab. This year, we chose a schoolwide theme to focus on our literacy efforts. The theme "United in Reading" has been a wonderful way for us to understand and enjoy the importance of reading! Our school assemblies and many of the classroom activities have been centered around our theme. We truly are united and successful readers! Every year, our elementary students perform entertaining musical programs. On April 7th, the kindergarten and first grade classrooms will have the opportunity to share their musical talents with family and friends! Other upcoming events include spring semester parent/teacher conferences on March 18 and 20 and the family math night/science fair on April 29th. Of course, springtime is field trip time! Many classrooms will be going on field trips as an extension of their classroom learning.

I would just like to say how pleased we have been with the Seward Elementary School. I am always hearing horror stories from around the country about schools being too PC. I am glad to report that being here in Seward, Nebraska they still teach about George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King. We have been very happy with my son's teachers, Mrs. Piskorski and Mrs. Dickinson. Keep up the great job Seward Elementary.
