Holly Petersen Named Youth Rotarian of the Month for October
Seward High Senior, Holly Petersen was selected the October
Youth Rotarian of the Month and honored at the Oct. 10 weekly
Seward Rotary Club meeting, held at noon at the Jones National Bank
and Trust Auditorium. She is the daughter of and lives near
Garland, Nebraska.
Holly is very active in the area of Fine Arts at Seward High and
has participated in the SHS One Acts all four years, with the lead
role in this year's competition show. She is a member of the SHS
Speech team, was the SHS representative to the State Poetry Outloud
Poetry Contest and selected a finalist in the competition. Holly is
a four year member of marching band, Seward High Singers, Seward
High Choir and the SHS Musical. She is involved in the SHS Skills
USA Club and was a two year member of the SHS Girls Golf team. She
is a Student Council member, FFA member and in National Honor
Society. She enjoys the piano and was a nine year member of 4-H.
She is always on the SHS Honor Roll and involved in many committees
throughout the School. She has served as a youth leader for the
Seward Fourth of July Committee.
Holly is the daughter of Greg and Paula Petersen of rural Garland.
Holly is very involved with her church, St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church in Seward, sings for their services and is a member of Godparents. Her focus to "Service Above Self" focus is in the involvement of her work with the youth and people who are members of her church. She has volunteered and served in many aspects of service through her church and godparent's programs.
She plans to attend either Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska Weslyan in Lincoln, UNL or Burkley in Boston Holly was presented mementos from the Rotary Club and will receive a book scholarship. She is a finalist for the Rotary Service Above Self Scholarship and will be honored again at the SHS Honors Night in May of 08. Nomination forms for the monthly award are available in the counselor's office in the high school.
