Nathan Buss is December Youth Rotarian of the Month

The Seward Rotary honored Seward High Senior, Nathan Buss, as the December
2007 Youth Rotarian of the Month and recognized him at their recent noon luncheon meeting on December 12, 2007 at the Jones National Bank and Trust Auditiorium. Nathan is the son of Mark and Jan Buss of Seward.

Nathan has been employed by Sloup/Thorell Detasseling Company for the last five summers.

His school leadership and activities include membership in the FFA, where he currently serves as an officer/vice president. He has been the filmer for the the girls basketball and volleyball games for the last four years. He is a member of Skills USA and Key Club.

Nathan is a very active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Seward and serves as an acolyte, crucifer and assists when ever called upon for help.  He helps annually with the church decorating at Christmas and is a leader and involved in the youth Godparent program at St. John's. He also films the Sunday services for the members of the church who are unable to attend the services.

For the last three summers he has helped with the Seward Fourth of July Celebration and been a member of the fireworks committee with Mel Bolte. He assists with the display preparation and set up and currently serves as the Senior Youth Co-Chairman for the overall, general committee for 2007-2008.

Nathan's volunteer actities include working with the senior citizens at the nursing homes, through the FFA. He coordinates the game nights with the residents and the students and also helps take pets to the nursing homes on a weekly basis.

Nathan's "Service Above Self" emphasis is his volunteerism to his church, the community of senior citizens and Seward's Fourth of July Celebration. He has enjoyed helping when called upon and plans to continue in this avenue of service to others!

He plans to attend either Doane or Wayne in computer technology or Milford's Southeast Community College in the area of architectual Engineering or Architectural Drafting.

Nathan was presented with a Rotary banner, mementos and a book scholarship.
He will be recognized in May at the Senior Honors night and is a finalist for the Rotary Scholarship. Seward Seniors can apply for this award by contacting their counselors at Seward High School.
