Rotary Selects Blake Barry September Youth Rotarian of the Month
Blake Barry, a Seward High Senior, was selected the September Youth Rotarian of the Month by the Seward Rotary Club. He is the son of Tom and Jodi Barry of Seward. Blake was introduced at the luncheon meeting on September 16, 2009 at the Jones National Bank and Trust. He was recognized for his active high school career, while at Seward High and presented with a book scholarship to be used when he attends college. He is also considered a finalist for the Seward Rotary “Service Above Self” award and scholarship, to be announced in May.
Blake is active in SHS athletics, participating in the SHS football program for all four years. He has participated in SHS basketball and a four year member of the SHS track team, qualifying for State track last year. He is a member of the SHS One Act cast this year and has been part of the SHS musical the last three years.
Blake has been involved in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and on the Seward High Honor Roll. He is active in his Godparent’s program at the Seward United Methodist Church.
Coaching junior flag football and also being a referee for the program has been a highlight for Blake. His “Service Above Self” project involved a ten day mission project at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, where he worked with the “Re-member” program, building and restoring homes for the families on the reservation.
Blake plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln or University of Nebraska at Kearney and eventually attend a school of chiropractics and become a chiropractor.
Blake was presented some mementos of the Seward Rotary Club and will be honored again at the SHS Honors Night in May. Applications for the monthly award are available in the SHS Counselor’s office.
